Many people see Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer. However, it can be problematic to wait until late May to open your pool. Below, you will find a few reasons why it is beneficial to open your pool sooner rather than later. And Goodall Pools is here to help!
Open Your Pool Early to Avoid Green Water
Algae loves to grow in warm, dark environments. No one enjoys the first few days of hot weather in late spring like algae does! All it takes for algae to bloom is a few warm days, with your cover still on your pool, and stagnant water that has not been treated in several months. Before you know it, you could be taking off your winter cover to find a swamp.
Treating algae costs a lot of time, money and effort that can be avoided by opening your pool in April or early May when the water and outdoor temperatures are cooler.
The Pool is Ready When You Are
Opening your pool and getting it ready for the summer can be a lengthy process. After the cover is removed, water in the pool is topped off, and the equipment is started, it is best to let the pool circulate for 2 – 3 days before testing the water. The first water test often requires a larger amount of chemicals since the water has not been treated for several months. It is normal for water balancing to take a few days and a couple of water tests until everything is in range. The sooner you open your pool and start the balancing process, the sooner you will be able to swim! Your pool will already be ready when we get our first hot weekend in late spring!
More Time for the Water to Warm Up
No one likes jumping into a cold pool! Once your pool is opened and balanced, it is a great time to use a solar cover or liquid solar cover to help your water retain heat on nice spring days. Opening your pool early gives you plenty of time to help your water warm up naturally.
