Something’s just not right with your hot tub. Your gut is telling you something needs to be done, and your nose is starting to agree. Goodall Pools & Spas is here to help with this short course called, “Your Nose Knows: 3 Signs Your Spa Needs Attention.” We’ve been helping the people of Pennsylvania with their hot tubs for almost 30 years. Let us give you some useful information about odor indicators that say, “Your spa needs some maintenance.”
Bacteria Breeds a Bad Smell
You can trust your sense of smell for this maintenance issue. So if the water has a bad smell, you first need to determine what is causing the uncommon odor. Bacteria is one common cause of an unpleasant scent and some say it can be compared to that of a rotten egg.
A buildup of contaminants that are not being destroyed quickly enough by the cleansing agents can create this smell. So, when your water smells rotten, you should begin with a good dose of sanitizer to correct the problem. Then test the water to see which levels need to be adjusted.
Goodall Pools keeps high-quality products on hand for all of your DIY maintenance needs. Our knowledgeable staff can help you find the SpaGuard® chemicals that you need to get that water clean, balanced, and clear of odor.
Mold Makes a Musty Smell
Another smell that signals a problem for your spa is a musty odor. The water can begin to smell musty when there is mold or some type of fungus present. If you are smelling a musty smell, similar to dirty socks, you want to take action against mold.
There is no spa treatment that effectively kills all mold. To care for this issue, you’ll need to drain the hot tub for a thorough cleaning. Once this is done, you can refill and begin enjoying the hydrotherapy odor-free again.
Perhaps you don’t have the time to care for your spa’s needs right now. If this is the case, our Prestige Spa Maintenance is available for your convenience. We have trained technicians who will get your spa in working order and keep it that way year-round.
Covers Can Cause Odor
The last of our signs your spa needs attention moves beyond the water itself. Bacteria and mold do not limit themselves to growing only in the spa water. The spa cover is another area that could cause an odor problem.
Maybe you’ve tested the water, and all is well. The pH and sanitizer levels are just where they need to be. This is when you want to turn your attention to your cover. Hot tub covers don’t last forever. Time takes a toll on them too.
Check your cover to see if it is holding excessive water and not draining because the smell could very well be coming from the cover. We carry automated hot tub covers from Covana that would be a great replacement option.
