At Goodall Pools & Spas, we sell and install hard wall above ground pools. As summer begins, and folks are still being advised to stay home, we are getting a lot of questions about whether or not we sell such pools and if so, is it possible for homeowners to install an above ground pool themselves.
Overview of How to Install an Above Ground Pool
You can install an above ground pool in just a few days. You will need the help of a few people and can make it a great weekend project for family members and friends. We often get asked if any special tools are required. The answer is no, you do not need any special tools. Regular household tools are all that is required. Here are some important considerations.
Can You Install an Above Ground Pool Yourself
You can absolutely install an above ground pool yourself if you have the instructions and help you need to get the job done right. Here’s what you need to accomplish.
Level the surface. One of the most important parts of installation is making sure the surface where you plan to put the pool is level. If your space is level or can be made level with just a little excavating, you can easily put the pool up yourself. Otherwise, you will probably need a professional.
Purchase one of our kits. We sell above ground pool kits for customers to install themselves. The kit includes the pool walls, liner, startup chemicals, vacuum supplies, a ladder, equipment, and most of the basics you need to get started.
Electrical knowledge. You may need someone with electrical knowledge to help you set up the equipment. You can read instructions and do it yourself, but it is a good idea if you know someone with some electrical experience to ask them for help.
Adding water. It is important that you add the water to the pool as soon as you put the liner in. You want to fill the pool the same day. If the liner sits in the sun without water, it can dry out quickly and then it will not look good or sit in the pool properly. Water is also very important in keeping above ground pool walls structurally sound, so you want to keep water in the pool at all times.
Water testing. When you have everything ready to go, you can bring in a water sample for us to test so we can be sure your water is balanced and safe for swimming. We will also instruct you on how to best care for your pool throughout the summer.
