Labor Day is coming. Since it is the last holiday weekend before fall sets in, it is pool party time. Fire up the barbecue, find some good music to play, and get the pool ready so your guests will have an incredibly fun party that will leave them hoping you invite them back again. At Goodall Pools & Spas, we have some helpful hints for making your pool party the best one ever.
Pool Maintenance
You want your guests to be eager to dive into clear, clean, refreshing water. Check the pH level, which should be between 7.4 and 7.6. If guests go home with itchy eyes and skin, they may believe you put too much chlorine in the water when the real culprit is unbalanced water.
Sweep and skim the pool to remove all debris. Check drains and remove debris from the pool. Or call us to take care of getting your pool ready for the big day.
Backyard Preparation
Mow the grass, sweep the patio, and be sure plants are watered and deadheaded. Freshen your potted plants if necessary. Treat areas where mosquitos might linger and areas where other pests may hide.
Decorations
Making the party area festive is also a fun touch. Add Tiki torches and string lights in the bushes and trees. Caution: Do not string lights across the pool. If a string should loosen or break and dip into the pool, your guests can be severely shocked or even electrocuted.
Pool Party Music
If you want to be festive, you can hire a DJ who will play all your favorite music. Then, you do not have to worry about changing the music yourself. On the other hand, choose a few old favorites like the Beach Boys that inspire people to enjoy your pool party!
Food
You can make it yourself, cater it, or have a potluck. Whichever way you go, be sure there are veggie burgers available for your vegan or vegetarian friends. There are many choices now available.
Emphasize Pool Safety
The most important thing to do is be sure your guests, especially small children, are safe. For children’s safety, consider hiring a lifeguard. Another option is to have the adults take shifts supervising the children. Be sure whoever is on duty knows not to take their eyes off the pool for even a nanosecond.
Necessary information for the supervisor is danger signals to watch for and that drowning children bob up and down in the water. They do not scream or flail. You do not want your pool party to end in tragedy.
