Spring is here. It’s a time for renewal. So as Mother Nature blooms into a new state of vibrant life and beauty, you should think seriously about whether you’re due for a vinyl liner replacement once summer rolls around.
At Goodall Pools & Spas, we have always said that our pool projects, be they new builds or renovations, are about so much more than the pool itself. It includes the pool deck, the fencing, the surrounding backyard, any water features you want to incorporate, and all the equipment needed to operate your backyard oasis. All of these elements working together in concert is what makes a successful pool.
But there’s one pool element that doesn’t get enough credit for how far it can refresh not just a pool but an entire backyard: the vinyl pool liner.
Why is a vinyl liner replacement so important?
In our recent blog, Pool Renovation Ideas for 2023, what was the first item we put on that list? “Replace the pool liner.” So why does the liner get the leading spot on our pool renovation greatest hits chart? For one thing, it’s absolutely essential for ensuring that your pool is usable, safe, and fun for as long as possible. After all, it’s what makes contact with all the water, chemicals, and people in the pool all day, every day.
Furthermore, it has the aesthetic capacity to tie your entire outdoor environment together. Think of all the components that make up the picture of your backyard. There’s a concrete pool deck and fence (often with an adjacent patio). There’s all the vegetation from grass to trees to the bountiful garden you’ve meticulously planted. And, the showstopper, your pool.
All of these contribute a wide range of colors and textures to your backyard design. Your pool liner acts as a broad swath of color and pattern in the middle of all these visual elements, anchoring them in one, sparkling focal point.
Why is spring a good time to think about replacing your vinyl liner?
Springtime is when you de-winterize your pool. The important thing to remember is that you don’t want to wait until you see Memorial Day on the calendar to give your pool a close look. The sooner you can make a decision on whether or not your liner needs a refresh, the better. Read our blog, How to Tell If You Need a Vinyl Liner Replacement, for more information on how to assess your liner for the new swim season.
How does Goodall Pools & Spas replace vinyl liners?
After decades in the business, we at Goodall have become true artists in the area of vinyl liner replacements (what we call “liner flips”). This process usually takes us 2 days to complete, on average.
On the first day, we drain the pool, take out the old liner, and replace it with a new one. Additionally, we put in new “white goods,” such as the pool jets and skimmer face plate, that have accumulated grime over the years. The pool is then refilled with water on the same day. A day or 2 later, we revisit the site to address any wrinkles that may have formed in the new liner.
Once your new liner is installed and any necessary adjustments are made, it should last you between 10 and 15 years with proper care and maintenance.
